J-Word for the Day

Tanjobi - birthday

How to say "happy birthday" in Nihongo: otanjobi omedeto gozaimasu!

(I got a message from my mobile service provider the other night greeting me happy birthday a month later. Still, I should take advantage of the 24-hour free call. Hmmm, who shall I call? Moshi moshi?)

My real birthday was last month. I celebrated it in Pusan with a Japanese lunch.

What I like about Japanese set meals is that it is uber complete. Soup, salad, side dishes, main meal (although with the varied choices, it's confusing at times on which is the main dish), rice, dessert and tea.

Pusan is supposed to be famous for its sashimi. But the sashimi (I don't know which fish, it's with the white meat) they usually had was the chewy kind that felt like bubblegum.

Anyway, otanjobi omedeto gozaimasu to me.
