Japan's Hibiscus

At the noontime market (yes, it's back!) beside the office today, I passed by the Friday plant stall. They had this lovely hibiscus (gumamela to us Pinoys) plants on sale for only 200 baht (US$5). Each plant had two giant flowers. They were beautiful and I was almost tempted to buy them except that I don't really have a green thumb and considering the humid weather...

Anyways, the stall owner told me that they were from Japan. They looked like this:
