J-Word for the Day
hentai -- In Japanese, the word hentai is a kanji compound of 変 (hen meaning "unusual" or "strange") and 態 (tai meaning "attitude" or "appearance"). It is never used to refer to pornographic material, only to a person. (Source: Wikipedia).
In a conversation with K yesterday:
Me: Nagbasa ako ng mga articles on (name of talent builder) kahapon, scary... sana di niya hinarass ang mga boys natin.
K: Bakit scary????
Me: Mukhang screwed up silang lahat e. Baka effect yun ng sexual harassment.
K: Eh they're Japanese, they're screwed up. Mga hentai!
I don't think K meant hentai here in a negative form. I took it as a compliment too. Screwed up in a fun, funny way.
