Art My Nail

In NHK's TokyoEye programme last night, they featured the hottest trend in Japan's capital right now: nail art.

Some girls take six hours just to do their nails. And there are all sorts of accessories. Coloured stones resembling jewels, floral patterns (I liked one of the girls' designs with white daisies, they looked so dainty!) and the latest in thing was to have some dangling bling attached to the nails. So imagine these little things hanging from each nail, I probably won't be able to do anything more.

They showed how the whole thing was done and the whole process looked like a major artwork for me. And to do 10 fingernails!

Now the thing is, when you have those nails, it makes doing some things impossible. Like opening canned drinks, typing on one's mobile phone or doing one's buttons. But no problem! Trust the Japanese to come up with the solution to just this. They have come up with a can openner with coloured stones that could even match your nails if you want! Or those sort of finger "protection" that looks like a hair accessory. As to the buttoning clothes, well, they did not have any solution for that at the moment.

But get this. I was laughing so hard when they had a studio guest and they dimmed the lights. Her nails glowed in the dark!

When I go to Japan, I'm going to have my nails done with "his" face. Or Cherry Blossoms. Or a kimono pattern.
