Waiting For A Mikado
Japan is holding its breath at the moment. And so am I.
I know their powers-that-be who want to keep the status quo are hoping for a baby boy to be born to Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko, who have two daughters.
Me? I'm wishing it will be a girl.
Screw traditionalists. I like Prince Naruhito and his wife, Princess Masako who I think has been poorly treated by the media and the conservatives in that country. And I love their cute daughter, Princess Aiko (I could not say the same thing for the daughters of the second prince), probably the world's most famous four-year-old. Incidentally, she was our magazine's first cover girl.
This whole saga is unfolding like a drama series. You've got an Oxford-educated crown prince who stood by his wife during her difficult periods adjusting to royal life and continues to love her. I'm a sucker for romance, I know. His brother, on the other hand, looks like the typical kontrabida (it's the mustache probably) and the wife, now the "heroine of the hour", a scheming support character (I know it's not her fault to get pregnant and more so, if she gives birth to a koi, er, a boy). Oops, I'm getting carried away so before the Jap government ban this blog (as if!!!), I'll quit now with the fervent wish that I really hope it's a girl.
And just like in fairy tales, everyone will live happily ever after.
