Yipon for the day

I was at the parlour last weekend. I told the reception what I needed done to my hair. The girl turned to one of the attendants and muttered something and I managed to catch a word: "Yipon" which means Japanese in Thai.

I was asked to sit down and wait for my number to be called. After a few minutes, someone approached me and started to speak in Thai. The girl at the receptionb said "yipon".

I was ushered to a seat and the girl who deposited me there told my would-be hairdresser: "yipon".

I was too amused to say anything. But I was thinking, bloody hell, they'd probably be expecting a huge tip from me now that I'm supposed to be Japanese.
